Obituary for Mary Jane Holbrook, Hardin County, Illinois On the night of January 24, 1915, death entered the home of Uncle Samuel Holbrook and called from him his aged companion Mary Jane Holbrook. Aunt Mary, as she was familarly called, was born and raised in Hardin County. She was the daughter of James and Jane Chambers. Her mother died when she was a child, 10 years of age, leaving her without a a home or any relatives to care for her, but she together with a sister found a home with the writer's father, Thomas Clanton. Mary Jane married David Blanchard, a son of Preacher Blanchard's when she grew to woman-hood and one child was born to them, Mrs Anna Smith, now living in Elizabethtown. After a short time she and her husband separated leaving her alone with her little daughter, Anna, to live as best she could among friends until she was married to Samuel Holbrook, her now surviving husband. Six children were born into this union, four of who have preceded the mother in the Realms of Eternity. Two boys Henry and Bruce are left to mourn the loss of the good mother. Aunt Mary professed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the General Baptist Church at Rock Creek and lived a consistent Christian life until death called her to her reward. Aunt Mary was sixty-four years, 3 months, and 7 days old. After an impressive funeral sermon delivered by Rev. Jonas Spivey and the writer, her mortal remains were laid to rest to await the resurrection of the dead. "Blessed are the dead, who die in the Lord." Written by A.J.
