Obituary of Mrs. Margaret Speiller Reiner, Hardin County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Wanda Reed Name of Deceased: Mrs. Margaret Speiller Reiner Name of Newspaper: Hardin County Independent Date of Newspaper: 8 May 1930 Mrs. Margaret Speiller Reiner widow of Gottlieb Reiner died Sunday night of paralysis. Her funeral was held Monday April 28. She was buried in a private cemetery on the Reiner farm which had been her home for 63 years. Mrs. Reiner came from Youngstown, Ohio leaving the city to accompany her German husband to an uncleared farm in Hardin County and living a typical pioneer life on a Southern Illinois farm after the civil war. Mr. Reiner had left Berlin, Germany to evade the draft, but fought four and one half years in the war between the north and the south, when freedom of the slaves was the issue in the United States which showed his love for his adopted country, as he could have returned to Germany. He died several years ago and their four sons, Fred, Willie, Henry and John E. Reiner preceded their mother in death. Henry and John E. were former Harrisburg dairyman. John E. and little daughter, Marguerette were killed in a collision between a train and their automobile May 27, 1924. They were brought back to Harrisburg and laid to rest in the mausoleum at Sunset Hill cemetery June 11, leaving the widow and mother, Gertrude Hicks Reiner, a former Pope Co., girl, in St. Paul's Hospital for 8 months to bear the grief, suffering and tragedy alone. "Grandma" Reinder was 82 years old and is survived by three daughters: Mrs. John Osman, Mrs Will Cox, and Mrs. John Ledbetter all of near Hicks; two sisters Mrs Cathryn Jones and Mrs Carolyn Irvin of Harrisburg and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
