Obituary of Nancy Jane GARLAND, Hardin County, Illinois This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Wanda Reed MRS. NANCY JANE GARLAND was born in Obion County, Tennessee March 11th, 1833. Died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.W. Miles in Rosiclare, Illinois June 22nd. 1914 at 9:15 p.m. aged 81 years, 3 months and 11 days. The family of deceased moved to Illinois when she was but 6 years old, her maiden name being Mahan. She was married to William Garland in the month of August 1854 in Hardin county, Illinois with whom she happily lived until his dewath some few years back. This union was blessed with family of nine children, 8 of whom are still living, one dying in infancy. Of those surviving are four sons-(fold of paper unreadable) Mary E. Shearer, Mrs. Nancy Jane Miles, Mrs Lizzie Frayser, and Mrs Harriet Hoskinson of Warren, Arkansas. All these were present at demise of the aged fond mother save the latter named daughter and the youngest son, Henry, who resides in Indianapolis. Deceased professed faith in Christ and joioned the General Baptist Chruch in 1856 at Old Smyrna. Later attaching to the Presbyterian church at Potter after her own church disbanded its organization at Smyrna. Her death was due to effects of cancer and the infirmities of old age. But she was a good woman generally known and liked in the upper part of our county, where her life was largely spent. Remains were carried to the Beavers Cemetery in Eastern part of our county for interment Tuesday afternoon. Rev. E.E. Montgomery conducting the funeral and presiding over burial rites. The Sentinel extends its deepest sympathy to all these dear old home people now left in mourning through death of mother and friend.
