Obituary for Nancy J. Winters, Hardin County, Illinois Sister Nancy J. Winters was born near Cave-in-Rock on a farm 8 September 1846, died April 29, 1916 and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. She was the third daughter of J.W. Hughes. She has three half brothers living, William Hughes of Elizabethtown, John and George of Shawneetown, IL. She has a half sister living at Thompsonville. She was the mother of 11 children, Paul, of Elizabethtown, James, who has employment with Sears and Roebuck Company at Chicago, Illinois with a good salary, also two step children, these four survive her. She first was taken with a cancer on her lip and was operated on and cured, but it was thought that the cancer fell to her stomach, which was partly the cause of her death. We were informed that she prayed to God to spare her until Paul, her little cripple boy was able to make himself a living. She professed to have had a hope beyond this vale of tears and said she heard her daughter calling her to come home. Sister Winters was a neighbor to the writer and his wife and the writer will say in memory of her kind treatment, sleep on until the resurrection morning, in which Christ will come to call to Glory, those who have trusted in Him.
