Obituary of James H WINGATE, Hardin County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Wanda Reed Name of Deceased: James H WINGATE Name of Newspaper: Hardin County Independent Date of Newspaper: 8 August 1929 James H. Wingate, born of Edward and Sidney Wingate 6 March 1863, died July 20 1929 at 5 p.m. age 66 years, 4 months and 14 days. Married January 31, 1887 Triphena Cullison, to which union 1 son E.N. Wingate was born. Professed faith in Christ about 15 years ago at the Wesley Chapel M.E. Church, under Rev. A.G. Proctor's ministry. He is survived by his wife, son, three grandchildren: Edith, Hanson and Clarence Wingate and two sisters, Mrs Emma Mott of Cave In Rock and Rose Wingate of Shawneetown. Mr. Wingate was a farmer all his life, and in his community where he has lived for the past 21 years, his life speaks for itself; honest, industrious, uncomplaining, generous and upright in all his dealings. No one ever spoke ill of him, because there was no occasion to do so; and when the news came of his death, the whole neighborhood was grieved. Mr. Wingate had not been well for some time, he had helped quite a lot with the farm work this summer. About 2 o'clock on Saturday afternoon July 20th. he became seriously ill. For three hours he suffered intensely, and at 5 o'clock relief came, before some of his grandchildren and other relatives could be summoned. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Loren E. Page of Enfield, IL in the Levy Pond Church, of which he had been a faithful attendant. Interment was made in the IOOF cemetery near Cave In Rock Monday July 22nd. The great number of people calling at the home and attending the funeral services, together with the beautiful floral offerings testify as to the high esteem with which he was regarded by people all over the county.
