Obituary of William Jefferson Young, Hardin County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 2000 Wanda Reed William Jefferson Young, the son of Elbert and Susan Jane Young was born at Leamington, Illinois, September 27, 1877 and passed away in the Rosiclare Hospital at noon April 11, 1944, at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 14 days. In 1898 he voluteered as a soldier in the 3rd Kentucky Infantry and saw active service in Cuba during the Spanish American War, which he was honorably discharged. He married Rose Conn at Paducah, Kentucky in 1905. To this union a son, Louis Jefferson was born. In 1923 he joined the Baptist Church and was baptized. He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife, one son, who is serving with the armed forces in England, his son's wife, also one brother, Henry Clay of Paducah, Kentucky a sister, Mrs. Miley May Thompson of Washington, Indiana; other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J.R. Keeling at the First Baptist church at Peters Creek with military ceremonies at the grave--there to await the resurrection. The following served as pall bearers and were from three different wars, Spanish American, WW I, and WW II. They were Dr. W. H. Birch, Arza Oxford, Carl Frayser, R.F.
