Obituary for Wiley Leonberger, Hardin County, Illinois Wiley Leonberger, son of the late Fred and Sarah E. Leonberger was born in Hardin County, IL. 27 June 1880 and departed this life November 28, 1943 at Outwood, Ky. Veterans Hospital at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 8 days. He was married to Gertie Brownfield 20 Apr 1908. He was a Spanish American War Veteran, belonging to Co. D. volunteers of Hardin County. He leaves to mourn his passing, a sorrowing companion, one son Maxie, who is with the Coast Guards; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Denton, Shawneetown, IL., Mrs. Ollie Love, Sparks Hill, Hardin County; two brothers: George Leonberger of Cave-in-Rock, and Charles of Sparks Hill, several nieces and nephews, who esteemed him highly, besides a host of other relatives and friends, by whom he will be greatly missed, as well as his surviving "buddies" of Co. D. One brother, Clarence, passed away several years ago. During his long illnesss he often told his companion he had no fear of death as he was at peace with his maker. Wiley had a quiet unassuming disposition with strong traits of character, and principles of living, others would do well to emulate. Funeral servics were held Thursday afternoon at Pisgah church. Funeral sermon by Rev. M.F. Oxford, prayer by Rev. James Potter, music by Leamington quartet, pianist, Mrs Ethel Oldheim; T. B. Snith of Ridgeway, funeral director.
