Deed of Elisha D. Jackson - Henderson County, Illinois The following is a transcription of a handwritten land record that recorded the sale of some land between my g.g.grandparents, Elisha D. and Isabel Celia (Milholland) Jackson, and Elisha's brother, Asa Jackson. According to the Clerk's office it is the only land record that they had in the name Elisha Davis Jackson, even though his family is recorded on the 1850 and 1860 Henderson Co. Illinois census records. The deed is recorded in Deed Record Book 9, page 319, dated 12-Feb-1852. "Know all men by these presents that We Elisha D. Jackson and Isabella C. Jackson of the County of Henderson and State of Illinois parties of the first part In consideration of the Sum of Four Hundred & Fifty Dollars paid by Asa Jackson of the County of Henderson and State of Illinois party of the Second part the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have granted, Bargained and Sold and by these presents do Grant Bargain Sell convey and confirm unto the said party of the Second part his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract of Land situate in the County of Henderson and State of Illinois and known and described as the East half of the South West Quarter of Section Eight in Township Eleven (11) North of Range No. Four (4) West of the Fourth Principal Meridian To Have and To Hold the said premises with all of the appurtenances thereto belonging and in anywise appurtaining to the only proper use benefit and behoof of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever And the said parties of the first Covenant with the party of the second part his heirs and assigns that they are lawfully seized in fee of said premises and have good right to convey the same that they are free from all incumberance and that for the consideration above named the title thereof to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns against all lawful claims whatsoever will forever Warrant and Defend. In Witness whereof the said Grantors have hereunto set their hands and seals this twelfth day of February 1852 In the presence of John M. Fuller ) Elisha D. Jackson (seal) State of Illinois ) Isabella C. Jackson (seal) Henderson County ) Let Be it Remembered that on this Twelfth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty two came Elisha D. Jackson & Isabel C. Jackson who are personally known to to the undersigned Justice of the Peace in and for said County to be the identical persons who executed and whose names are subscribed to the foregoing Deed of Conveyance as having executed the same came before me and acknowledged the same to be their voluntary act and deed for the purposes therein expressed. And the said Isabella C. Jackson being by me made acquainted with the contents of said Deed of Conveyance and examined separately and apart from her husband acknowledged that She executed the same and relinquished her Dower in the premises therein mentioned voluntarily freely and without the compulsion of her husband and she does not wish to retract the same. In Testimony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal at my office at Greenville the day and year first above written. J.M. Fuller J.P. (seal)" Additionally, volume II of the book, Henderson County, Illinois Cemeteries, by Virginia Ross and Jane Evans, c. 1979-1981, 2 volumes, published in Owensboro, Kentucky by McDowell Publications, records a grave marker with the inscription: "Jackson, Bellina Isabella, dau. of E.D. & I.C. d. Sept. 1, 1853, age 9m, 10d." This marker is in the Stockton Cemetery next to the grave of her brother Culver Jackson. Volume II of the book, Henderson County, Illinois Cemeteries, in the Stockton Cemetery shows there is a grave marker with the inscription that reads: "Jackson, Culver, son of E.D. & I.C. d. Sept. 14, 1849, age. 1y, 1m, 15d." The initials "E.D." and "I.C." probably refer to Elisha Davis and Isabel Celia Jackson. The names of both these children appeared in a family Bible kept by Elisha D. and Isabel C. Jackson. lisha and Isabel Celia (Milholland) Jackson left Henderson Co., Illinois in the fall of 1879 (see History of the State of Kansas edited by William G. Cutler, pub. 1883, p. 600) and moved to Monmouth Township, Shawnee Co., Kansas. In later life they lived with their daughter Amanda (Jackson) Council at Cedar Vale, Kansas, and died there and were buried in the Cedar Vale Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
