A potluck dinner and ice cream and cool aid was served. The visitors won most all the prizes for races. Everyone enjoyed the affair much. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Karger, Jimmy and Pauline, Mrs. Homer Eaton and Wayne and Danny Brown; were among those from here who attended the Eagles picnic held at the Eagles hall in Burlington, Ia., August 1st. Mrs. Marion Brown was taken to Burlington hospital Tuesday. August 3rd and was able to return to her home, here, Saturday, August 14th, after undergoing a major operation. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver C. Heater of St. Joseph, Missouri, spent the week end of August 6 and 7 here with Mr. and Mrs. Homer Easton, being former neighbors. They had not seen the Eastons for twenty-two years, so it was a surpirse when they woke the Eaton's up early Saturday A.M. The Heaters really liked the Mississippi river. A son born to Mr. and Mrs. Clair F. Gillaspie at St. Francis hospital, Tuesday, August 10th 1948. The young man weighed 8 pounds and has been named Paul Ernest. He has three sisters and one brother to welcome him home. Mrs. Pearl McIntyre is spending her vacation in California. Mrs. Homer Eaton visited the following patients in Burlington hospital Thursday of last week: Mrs. Marion Brown, Mrs. Loda Sliger, Mrs. Margaret Wynn, Miss Marjorie Arnold, Mr. George Schmeieser. Word was received by relatives here that Jimmy Clarkson, the 12 year old son of Mrs. Rose Clarkson and the late Walter Clarkson, was in a hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas, suffering from a kidney aliment and not expected to get well.
