EMMA SCHENCK PASSES JULY 4th, (1952) Stronghurst (AF) - Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Schenck, who made her home with her son, Glenn, at Stronghurst, were held Monday morning in the Stronghurst Christian Church with the pastor, the Rev. Grant Cowan, officiating. Two lovely old hymns, "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross", were sung by Mrs. George Morgan. Interment was in the Stronghurst mausoleum with the following acting as pallbearers: Morris Lee, Kenneth Veech, Wendell Wetterling, Chester Burg, Walter Nolen, and Earl Brokaw. Mrs. Schenck, the daughter of Alvin and Deborah Tharp, was born near Raritan, on March 5, 1860, and passed away at 6:00 p.m., July 4th at the age of 92 years, 4 months, and 4 days. She had been in failing health for some time. She grew to young womanhood on a farm east of Raritan and on January 10, 1883, was united in marriage to Jacob W. Schenck. The couple resided on a farm two and a half miles west of Raritan. To this union were born two sons, William of Campbell, California, and Glenn of Stronghurst, who both survive. At the death of her husband, who passed away May 25, 1933, Mrs. Schenck moved to Stronghurst where she has since made her home. Surviving, besides the sons, are 6 grandchildren: Harland, of Breezeport, Louisiana; Gordon, of Vancouver, British Columbia; Mrs Watsey Maison, Campbell, California; Elbert of Stronghurst; Mrs Howard Walker, of Tripoli, Africa; and Russell, in Japan.
