Having been converted, he joined the M. E. church when almost twenty years of age. For forty- six years he lead a Ch Christian irn life. A life in him full of noble ex ample and labour; four year's a class tom ______ in the church of his choice. In 18 ? he was married to Miss Ellen Kilgore daughter of the late Joshua Kilgore P.B. twp., and has been blessed ______ God in the union, in that children were given to him, that he might train them _______ usefulness, and that they might aid his wife and mother in caring for the husband and father, when he came to his last days. These last days have be been full to overflowing with pain and disc discomfort It has been said, "that our people are _______ well," so it has been most certainly so for brother Douglass. For a long time he had been in the valley of the shadow of death. He feared no evil The rod and staff did comfort him. Submissive and obedient he suffered the masters will yell? out a murmer or complaint. He rejoic es in affliction. He conquered the gra grace? and triumph over death. To day ______ doubt he is crowned and robed and fo for ever at the rest of the Lord. Obituary of Mrs. Ellen Douglas Mother of Mrs. Ira Carr, who has been ill for a long time past and confined to her bed since April, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carr, at an early hour yesterday morning. She was in her 80th year and was a woman of love- able Christian character. She was a member of the Methodist church. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. L. D. Van Arnam at the Carr residence Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. The remains will be taken to Iowa next week for interment. Mrs. Douglass, whose death is here announced as having occurred at Al- hambra, Cal., on Friday, Oct. 5th, 1906, was a younger sister of Mrs. Mary Neeper of Peach Bottom, Pa., who died four weeks previously, on Friday, Sept. 7, 1906. She was in the 90th year of her age, a daughter of the late Joshua Kilgore, of Peach Bottom township, of 11 brothers and sisters, 4 survive, --- Wm.K. Kilgore, Lower Chanceford; Mrs. Jane Gibney, Fawn Grove; Mrs Martha Wilson and Miss Lizzie Kilgore, of Peach Bottom township. 1865 Enumeration of Henderson Co., IL City: 10 North 4 West [ Near Biggsville, Henderson Co., IL] Census taker: James Ryason Samuel Douglas, head of family, 1 white male ten years and under, 2 white females ten years and under, 1 female over 20 and not over 30, 1 white person over 30 and not over 40, total whites 2 males and 3 females. page 12 of Enumeration Mary A. DOUGLAS that letters received from J.D. DOUGLAS at Fort Raynor, Dakota announce Alvard Edwards, late of this county, was killed by Indians while on a scout near that post, about the 10th of last month. The deceased was the son of the late Thos. Edwards. He had served 2 years during the late war in the 11th Ill. Cav. and enlisted in the regular army September last. He was not yet 20 years of age and a member of the same regiment of Regulars as J. D. DOUGLAS. Page 1 Married on 24 Nov 1868 at the M.E. Parsonage in Oquawka, Andrew J. Davis and Anna Douglass. Page 7 Note: This has to be Mary Martha Douglass who married a Stockton called Mr. Stockton in Amanda Douglass Hannah's biography of her family. Amoung the early settlers we may mention-------Wm L. Stockton in 1838 taught school for some time and built a house on Section 16 in 1840. In 1842 he was elected to the State Legislature. Page 12 The first blacksmith shop, on the north side of the road by J. B. Wheeling. A few years afterwards G. W. Lofftus established a shop at J.B. Stockton's. Page 12 & 13 Died--At Lincoln , Neb. on the 10 Apr 1882 Mrs. Mary E. Chapin, wife of Cyrus Chapin of Seward, Neb. Mrs. Chapin had been a severe sufferer for many months from a complication of diseases, and died of congest of the heart. She was born at Rosetta, Henderson Co., Ill. daughter of W. L. & Susan C. STOCKTON; was married in Dec 1873 and located in Seward in 1874. Mrs. CHAPIN was a member of the Universalist Church of Gaslesburg, Ill since 1866. She was a kind and affectionate wife, a doting mother and highly esteemed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances; a women of fine intellect and large social attainments.
