DAR ID Number: 106317 Born in Constantia, N. Y., Resident of Henry Co, Illinois until marriage to William John Shoup in 1868. (Schoolteacher in Henry Co, Illinois.) Resided Dubuque, Iowa after marriage, for at least 20 years, was a charter member of Dubuque DAR, resided Indianapolis, Indiana in 1914 when submitted this application, Descendant of Phineas Allen, as follows: 1. Russell G. Whipple (1822-70) m. 1847 Mary Allen (1827-73). (parents -lived Henry Co, IL at death) 2. Persons Allen (1781-1867) m 2nd 1805 Chloe Tuttle (1787-1859). (grandparents - lived Henry Co, IL at death) 3. Phineas Allen m. 2nd 1778 Rebecca Allen (b. 1749). (Gr. Grandparents lived Camden, NY at death) 4. Phinehas Allen (1754-1840) was placed on the pension roll of Oneida County, N. Y., 1831 for service as private, Connecticut militia. He was born in Connecticut; died in Camden, N. Y. Also No. 24265. A second DAR application from Mrs. Celia I Ingham (DAR # 60863) reads: Phineas Alling (1754-1840) was a private in the 5th company, Capt Joseph Prentice in command, 5th battalion, Wadsworth's brigade, 1776. In 1831 he was placed on the pension roll of Oneida County, NY for service as private, Connecticut militia. He was born in Connecticut; died in Camden NY. Mrs. Ingham lists herself as the Granddaughter of Orris Tuttle & Amy Smith. Her application states "See National DAR #5661" Ms Ingraham's DAR application states: "On page 408, "Connecticut Men in the Revolution", appears the following: Private Phineas Alling, in Fifth Company. Captain Jonas Prentis, Fifth Battalion, Wadsworth's Brigade, Col Douglass, 1776: "Battalion raised June 1776 to reinforce Washington's Army at New York. Served in the city and on the Brooklyn front, being at the right of line of works during the battle of Lord Island Aug, 27th. Engaged in the retreat to New York Aug 29-30th. Stationed with militia brigade under Col Douglass at Kip's Bay, 34th St., at time of Enemy's attack on New York, Sept 15th and forced to retreat hurriedly. At battle of White Plains Oct 28th.
