Eddy McOmber of Taylor Ridge was in town Monday between trains he was on his way to Keithsberg to attend sub district convention of the Epworth League. There is some talk of holding our sub-district convention here about the first of June. Mrs. Isabel Love and son Edgar of Galesburg spent Tuesday at Rev. W. H. Craine. Mrs. Dunlap, of Viola, district president of the W.C.T.U. was in Alpha Friday in the interest of the convention which is to be held in Alpha in May. Sam Douglass is loading three carloads of cattle at Alpha today. Miss Francis Grigg spent a few days at her home in Good Hope the past week. Miss Lucia Stitt enjoyed a few days at her home the past week, Hedding College having vacation. Mrs. Wm. Wirt entertains Friday evening. Misses Leota and Glenn Wilson and Mrs. Catherine Kerr spent Saturday in Galesburg. Spring work has begun at the nursery. The telephone stock holders in our burg have been holding some interesting meetings the past evenings settling questions pertaining to the switch board and the cost of switching. Central office will remain at the home of E. S. Cox during the coming year. The electric light subject is still under discussion in our village. If 200 lights can be contracted for we shall have the plant. The Bible class of the M. E. Sunday School were royally entertained by Miss Mary Sexton at her home Tuesday evening. On account of the inclemency of the weather only about thirty guests were presents. A most enjoyable evening was spent by all. A program had been prepared, one interesting feature being a poem given by Rev. W. H. Craine. Refreshments were served during the evening. Mr. Ralph Wilbur has been very ill with kidney trouble the past week. Earnest Cox is worse this week. A jeweler has moved his goods into the Peterson & Andrews store. On Tuesday J. A. Widney reached the sixtieth mile stone of his life. The evening before Bert Widney and family of North He*nder*son, Mr. and Mrs. V* E. Mabee of Galesburg came in to remind him of the occasion and spend the day with him. Miss Sloan of New Bosron has been visiting at the Geo. Wirt home the past week. A young lady cousin of F. E. Cederburgs from Nekoma is clerking at the restaurant. The latter has gone to work in the nursery. D. H. Kelly's youngest sister from Galesburg has been at his home the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Stoneberg, Jr. of Wyanet Sundayed here. Messrs. J. A. Widney and Geo. W. Wilson spent Monday at the county seat. H. L. Angevine was in Cambridge Friday on Business. Frank Butler of Galesburg who worked at the nursey a year ago and lived at the Cottage Hotel, has been calling on friends in Alpha since our last appearance. John M. Taze visited at the Robt. Clawson home in Watertown last Friday and Saturday. Little Bliss Warden went to Ophiem on the morning train Saturday to spend the day with friends of that village. Mrs. Calkins, of Oneida, has been visitin at J. B. Calkins' the past week. Mr. and Mrs. (nee May Hall) Joe Moody have a 9 1/2 pound daughter at their home born the 22nd. Mrs. A. L. Thamson came up from *Monmouth Monday on business. They have moved their goods to Morning Sun, Iowa, where A. L. has charge of the station of the Iowa Central Railway. A. H. Linn is wrestling with the mumps. A causin of Dr. T. L. Daniels, Mr. Hart of Pueblo, Colo., stopped in Alpha Tuesday an his way home from the east. Alpha School Notes Frank Baker and Henry Gran stopped sc*h*o*ol Friday to work in the nursery. A. Mr. Wilson engaged several small boys to sell tickets to his lecture Monday evening on Santiago. The pupils were much interested Tuesday in a large moth that had just emerged from its cacoon. It was an exceptionally large one. The rooms were treated to a scrubbing last Saturday. The Seventh grade intermediate will read Merchant of Venice this term. The primary room has been beautifully decorated with blue and white paper daisy chains. Pearl Wilson is sick with the mumps. Loch Angevine is in school again after a weeks absence on account of sickness. Lida Johnston, Glen Wilson, Flossie Boyd and Edna Calkins will take the teachers examination next Saturday.
