Services for Alice M. Shafer, 82, of 11 Glenwood Road, Coal Valley, are 11 
a.m. Wednesday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Burial is in 
Homeland Cemetery, Barstow.

Visitation is 7 to 9 tonight. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Nursing Home, 
Geneseo.

Mrs. Shafer died Monday at the home.

The former Alice Griffin was born Feb. 22 1908, in Coal Valley. She married 
Horance J. Brown Nov. 9, 1925, in Moline; he died in 1953. She married Harry 
Shafer Nov. 9, 1963, in Galesburg; he died in 1979.

She was a sales clerk for 11 years at JC Penney Co., Moline.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Moline, a circle of the 
church and a former member of the Moline Moose.

Survivors include sons, Gerald Brown, Coal Valley, and Charles Brown, 
Bettendorf; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Lang, 
Hampton, Eunice Reehl and Helen Frazier, both of Moline, Dorothy Sayre, Orion, 
and Martha Minnaert, Geneseo; and brothers Donald Griffin, Moline, and Elmer 
Griffin, Rock Island.
