Max Fischer Hoooppole Postmaster Succumbs at his Home Sunday Ferdinand Max Fishcer was born Sep. 30, 1865 at Dayton, Iowa. Here he spent his childhood days till he was 10 years of age. Then he moved with his mother and stepfather to Hooppole, residing on a farm west of town until he was a young man. He later was married to Catherine Berge and together they lived on the farm until the year 1910 when they retired and built the home in which he last resided with the hope of spending the remaining years in the village. He was then engaged as the village postmaster which position he had held for 17 years. In 1916 his wife passed away. In June of 1917 he was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Weiderhold of Hooppole who had been his faithful and devoted companion until his death. In his youth, Mr. Fischer was converted and joined the Evangelical church of Hooppole and has been a respected leader in it throughout the years. He has held the following important offices over the period of years, Sunday school superintendent, class leader, teacher, trustee and steward; the two latter offices he held until his death. In his church relation he lived up to its teaching and its spirit and endeared himself to all in the happy Christian fellowship. He was very faithful in attendance and his presence was a constant inspiration to all. He was faithful to the pastors and encouraged them in their oft difficult tasks. That he freely supported the local church and the general causes of the church is known to all and many have been blessed in the ministry of his liberal gifts. In all of his business dealings he was severly honest to the minutest detail. His integrity was never questioned and he was always willing to help anybody or any cause which he thought worthy. He was a friend of all; the little children loved him for his interest in them and he always had a word for them as he met them, and in his work as postmaster he had occasion to meet them all. Young and old shall miss him; they shall miss the young man who grew up with them, grew to ripening maturity until sickness infected him mentally and physically. After trying every possible relief from his suffering and complete exhaustion, he passed away on July 19, at 4:32 p.m. at the age of 65 years. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Elizabeth Fischer; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Holzinger of Geneseo, Mrs. Loretta Murphy of Wyoming; two half sisters, Mrs. Lavina Seyller of Hooppole, Mrs. Margaret Wollever of Chicago; one half brother, Ben Wolf of Hooppole and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ed Morse, and a dutiful son-in-law, Ed Morse and a grandchild, Robert Morse. Also many cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of friends. Three brothers, two sisters and his parents all are deceased. In this hour of deep sorrow, we sincerely sympathize with his devoted and now grief-stricken companion, who had learned to love him as a good husband, kind and loving and interested in her every need. She has expressed her sincerest appreciation to the many friends in her hour of sorrow for the love and sympathy so freely shown. And to all the near and dear ones to him, we express our friendly sympathy and commit you to the love of our Heavenly Father who forgives, knows and understands.
