The Buckley Chronicle September 27, 1895 HAPPENINGS OF THE WEEK Mrs. Leslie Ireland is quite sick. Henry Hartke has built a new granary. Dan Calmer drove through town Sunday. Frank Roberts is assistant agent at Rantoul. Harvey Martin is having his store re-shingled. Sam McFarlan is shingling Dr. Horner's house. Mr. H. Fumsfeld made a trip to Paxon Thursday. H.E. Roberts made a trip to Roberts last Thursday. Mr. Broadbend of Gilman was here last Saturday. Lawrence McCarty is putting up a huge corn crib. Ed. Temple and family have returned from their visit. Cannot something be done with our wind mill tower? Geo. A. Krumwiede is complaining about his health. Quite a number of our citizens took in the Sate Fair. Mrs. P. Freitag, we are sorry to say, is on the sick list. There was a ball in the Town Hall last Friday evening. Mrs. J.M. Fross (sic - should be Gross) has returned from her visit to Chicago. Mrs. Charley Lehigh of Chicago is visiting friends here. E. Smithurst and wife of Onarga dined here Saturday. Peck Gross from Atwood, Ill., passed through on his wheel. H. Maurer is suffering with an inflamation on his right eye. Mr. A. H. Sasse and family are sojourning in St. Paul, Ill. Will McKinley intends to leave us and locate in Hoopeston. Miss Tillie Ferdina has gone to Chicago to seek her fortune. Chas. Radeke has a new vocation. He occasionally "picks" cream. Mr. Hoppenstedt left for Chicago Tuesday after a week's visit. Miss Amanda Carrington of Loda visited friends here Monday. Lou Volberding came down from Del Rey Sunday to visit relatives. There is a case of diphtheria in the family of Mr. Frank Cumrine. Mrs. Louis Lustfield, Sr. put in a large cememt cistern last week. Chas. Kegebein of Chebanse paid his old friends a visit last week. B.F. Wallace is "under the weather" but hope he will soon feel better. The Cissna Park editor spent some time in Buckley Sunday evening. Bert Roberts was crowned "poet laureate" of Buckley Monday evening. Mr. Warner Rarden of Paxton has been engaged to repair the town well. Some of our people ate oysters, but came to grief. Do not be too fastidious. John Sass is suffering with gastrology. Dr. Zinser is looking after his welfare. The K.P.s went to Cissna Park Wednesday evening to help the boys over there. Mr. Stege came down on the nooon train last Tuesday to look after his interests. BORN--to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rust, a boy. May he and they live long and happily. Lightning struck Henry Steinmann's wind-mill Sunday night. No serious damage. Henry Krumwiede knows a good thing. He is having a cellar put under his house. Last week Thursday, Sept. 19, was Jewish New Year. They now write the year 5656. Chas. Hull and Coral Robinette came down from Gilman Sunday to see their best girls. Sup. Bruner spent Monday in cissna Park on business. Cr. Craner accompanied them. Will Krumwiede has a horse. It can run faster than Will. We know whereof we speak.
