Bartel "Barney" Bartell Obituary With the death of Bartel (Barney) Bartell, one of the most popular and well-beloved men, for many years a prominent citizen of the community, a successful career in life cam to a close. Mr. Bartell passed away at his home in Gifford last Friday morning at 8 o'clock. The departed had been ailing and failing for several years. Last week it was evident that his hours were numbered. At peace with the world and his Creator he longed to be relieved of the mortal coil. Bartel Bartell, a son of Bartel and Sadie Bartell, was born at Golden, Ill. in Adams county, on May 1, 1863. At the age of seven years he moved to Flatville with his parents. In that community he was reared and grew into young manhood. On May 7, 1888 he was united in marriage to Gebka Duitsman. Of this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters, one son dying in infancy. After 12 years of farming at Flatville, the happy family removed to Buckley, on a farm south of the village. Twenty-one years were injoyed there. Mr. Bartell then turned the management of the farm over to his son John and he and his family removed to Gifford where the younger son, Barney, had set up a business. There he was spending the evening of his life, for nineteen years. The deceased was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran church and remained faithful and steadfast until death. Besides the deeply aggrieved widow two daughres, Mrs. Ed Trusheim and Mrs. Ray Krumwiede, and two sons, John and Barney, eleven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Hilka Martens of Mexico, Mo., mourn his death. All members of his family revered him and pro- nounced him a grand father, a dutiful, loving husband, of a sunny, jocular disposition, he spread good cheer and sunshine wherever he went. We never heard hom utter a complaint nor a foul word. His pleasing, blessed mission will be missed, painfully and keenly. ------------------------------------------------------------- UGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organiza- tions or persons.
