ESCHEN, 90, with picture Funeral services for Evalena Elizabeth Eschen, 90, of Danforth, were held Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Danforth. Officiating was Rev. James Gerth. Burial was at the Danforth Cemetery in Danforth. Pallbearers were Ronald Classen, Marvin Peters, Jim Schroeder, Brian Siems, John A. Tammen, Robert Tammen, Glenn Wilken, and Harold Wilten. Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Drilling LaVerne Fatka, Ray Kellerhals, Edward Post, Aaron Siems, George H. Tammen, Arthur Schmidt, Willie Schmidt, Donald Wilken, and Bruce Haag. Organist was Linda Kellerhals. Soloist was Charles Classen. Mrs. Eschen died at 4:37 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at the Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. She was born April 21, 1915 in rural Danforth to George and Gertrude “Gertie” Tammen Meints Sr. She married August Eschen on Sept. 9, 1944. He died on May 4, 1981. Survivors include one sister, Henrietta Green; one brother, George & Ivadelle Meints Jr.; three nephews; and many cousins. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband and two brothers, Ervin and Gerald Meints. Mrs. Eschen attended Classen Grand School in rural Danforth. She was a caterer in Gilman. She worked for the Herman Danforth family and farmed with her husband in rural Gilman and Piper City. In 1930 following a move to Danforth. She was known for her cooking at the Shamrock in Ashkum and Prairieview Lutheran Home where she worked for many years and retired from Prairieview Lutheran Home. Mrs. Eschen was active in her church, St. John’s Lutheran of Danforth, and the Sarah Circle. She was a member of Senior Citizens of Danforth and Friends of Prairieview. In her most recent ears she had sewn quilt tops for St. John’s mission projects. She enjoyed reading, gardening, attending the Country Workshop Workshop in Cissna Park volunteering at Praireview and visiting with family and friends. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Prairieview Lutheran Home. Arrangements were made by Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman.
