Harrison Otis Henry (1810-1886) Obituary Died: At the residence of his son, H. L. Henry in Redfield, Dakota, on Wednesday, May 12,1886, of typhoid pneumonia, Harrison O. Henry, aged 76 years. Harrison Otis Henry was born in Nelson, Madison county, New York, March 7th, 1810, hence was two months and four days past 76 years of age at the time of his death. He removed when quite young with his parents to the state of Ohio, where he lived several years, returning to New York while yet a boy, after the death of his father. He learned the cabinet makers trade and engaged in that and other business at various points in New York for several years. Deceased was married at Rome, Oneida county, NY, on June 18th, 1835, to Miss Phebe M.Gibson, who is still living. Three sons were born of this marriage, H L. Henry of Redfield being the youngest. Deceased resided, with the exception of a year or two spent in Virginia, at Utica, NY, until 1849, when he went to California where he resided about four years. There he made the acquaintance of parties who persuaded him to believe the prairies of Indiana were the place for him to live, and returning to New York he, in 1854, removed his family to the site of what is now Kentland, Indiana, then an unbroken prairie for many mile around, aside from the improvements of one man. Prairie farming evidently did not suit him, and about a year later he removed to Iroquois county, Illinois, where for several years he followed the vocation of a hotel keeper, and many of his patrons will to this day testify that he was a popular landlord. In Iroquois county, IL, where he resided for about 25 years, deceased held many positions of honor and trust and always enjoyed the confidence and respect of his neighbors and the community in general.
