Maher, 92, Gilman, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Thawville with Pastor Michael Poynter officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilman. Viola died at 9:31 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka. She was born Jan. 18, 1914, in Gilman to Ulrich and Anna (Gercken) Theesfeld. She graduated from Onarga Township High School in 1932 and attended Gallagher business School in Kankakee. She worked for Civil Services in several cities, later working for an attorney in Onarga. She married William Maher in Bloomington on Jan. 7, 1957. They farmed in the Onarga area. He died in a farm accident on April 17, 1981 and she moved to Gilman in 1983. Surviving is one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Virginia Theesfeld of Gilman; a step-nephew and nieces; several cousins and a good friend and neighbor, Eileen Strough. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Elmer and Delmer. She was a member of the La Hogue Unit of the Home Extension and the Service Club. Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s or to the donor’s choice. She had been a member of St. Peter’s since 1931 after being baptized in 1914 and confirmed at St. John’s in Buckley. Redenius Funeral Home made the arrangements. Pallbearers were Delmar Ehmen, Roger Gercken, Rodney Honeycutt, Herbert Theesfeld, Robert Theefeld, Kim Wasmer. The organist was Dianna Darrohn.
