Services Held For MELVIN MARTIN, 77, with picture
	Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church in 
Ashkum for Melvin E. Martin, 77, of rural Ashkum with burial in the Ashkum 
Cemetery.  Rev. Jan Horne officiated.
	Melvin died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at 4:30 a.m. at the home of his 
daughter in rural Chebanse.
	He was bon Oct 17, 1928 in Gilman to Ray and Gearldean Duits Peters, 
who preceded him in death.  He married Elfrieda E. Ewerks in Ashkum on July 
19, 1953.  She died Jan. 6, 2005.
	He is survived by a daughter, Barbara and Tom Hanson of Chebanse and 
two sons, Tom Martin and Don Martin and companion Patty Doran, both of Ashkum; 
and five grandchildren.
	He was a farmer and independent trucker and served in the Army during 
the Korean War.
	He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and The Danforth Sportsman 
Club.  He enjoyed fishing antique tractors, woodworking and building bird 
houses.
	Memorial may be made to the donor’s choice.  Arrangements were made by 
Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton.
