Phebe (Gibson) Henry (1815-1892) Obituary Another Pioneer Gone Died, at her home in Watseka, on Thursday evening, July 14, 1892, of congestive chills, Phebe M. Henry, aged 77 years. Phebe M. Gibson was born in the State of New York, February 15, 1815. She was the third of a family of ten children. She was married to H.O. Henry, June 18, 1835, came to this county in 1855 and settled in Middleport where she has ever since resided. She had a family of three boys, Harrison L., Charles A., and Calvin [sic]. Her husband died in 1886 in Dakota where he was staying with his son, Harrison. She had lived for many years at the old home in Oldtown with only her little granddaughter, Lizzie, to bear her company. Mrs. Henry had a strong will. She was not easily turned aside from any course she had mapped out. She had strenuous convictions and looked upon all things in life seriously and earnestly. It is said that on every Fourth of July she would read the Declaration of Independence aloud. She had her full share of troubles but she met thembravely and was never conquered by them. She had lived to a ripe old age and most of those whom she knew in the early days while she was a pioneer in the land have passed away. She was one of the links that bind the present to the past: a belated pilgrim finally reaching the goal. The funeral took place Saturday forenoon at the Friends' Church, conducted by Rev. Samuel Light. The remains were buried at Oak Hill. Of Mrs Henry's children, Harrison L. and family arrived after her death from Tennessee, where he has lately been connected with a newspaper. Alvin is expected today from New York. Alvin's daughter, Lizzie, whom Mrs Henry reared from a child, expects to go home to New York with her father.
