Obituary of Mary Donovan Wallace - Iroquois County, Illinois Ashkum Journal, after 23 July 1923 Obituary of Mrs. Mary Wallace Mrs. Mary Donovan Wallace was born near Queenstown, Ireland, March 24, 1845, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna G. Merkle, near Ashkum, uly 21, 1923. Mrs. Wallace came to the United States in 1862 and was married to Peter Wallace in Joliet, Ill., April 5, 1868. They immediately came to Ashkum, where they resided on what was known as the Wallace Farm. They lived here for a number of years, and in the spring of 1907 moved to Ashkum. She resided here until December, 1922, when on account of failing health she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Anna G. Merkle, where she resided until her death. The children left to mourn her death are, Harry, Peter, Mrs. Jennie Merkle, Carolina, Thomas B., and Mrs. Anna Merkle, besides 12 grandchildren, and one great grand-daughter, two brothers, John Donovan of Chicago, Timothy Donovan, of Cherokee, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Feeney of Lockport and Mrs. Kate Sullivan of Chicago, besides numerous friends and other relatives. Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, 1923 at the Catholic church. Requiem High Mass was sung by Rev. Fr. Rimmels. Music furnished by L'Erable choir. The out of town relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Merkle and son, Robert, of Claypool, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wallace of Pekin, Illinois, Timothy Donovan of Cherokee, Iowa, Jerry Donovan, Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Wallace, Ellen Wallace, Catherine Wallace, of Chicago, Charles T. Wallace, and Mosk Wallace of Joliet.
