E. GOODSTEIN was a business visitor in St. Louis Wednesday of this week. N. S. BREWER of Ava visited Tuesday in Murphysboro with friends. Frank DAVIDSON of Edwardsville has been in Murphysboro for the last few days of a business trip. Mrs. Ardel FRIEDLINE of DeSoto was a shopper in Murphysboro Wednesday. Mr. & Mrs. Vern BAIRD of Elkville visited in Murphysboro Wednesday. Richard YOUNGMAN visited over the weekend with his father, Leo YOUNGMAN, 2011 Hortense street. Bob CAGLE has returned from St. Louis, where he spent Monday and Tuesday visiting relatives. Mrs. J. C. YARBAROUGH has gone to St. Louis to visit Mr. & Mrs. Martin ROPER and children, Nancy and Linda. R. H. WEBER, former Murphysboro resident, now of Marion, visited with friends in Murphysboro Wednesday. Frank EVOLDI and Leo FAUGHN were in Gorham Wednesday night to attend a meeting concerning the selection of boys for Boy's State. Mr. & Mrs. Ervin ALTHOFF have returned to Cairo after visiting here with Mr. ALTHOFF's mother, Mrs. Sophia ALTHOFF and family. Mrs. Nina BUSH and her daughter, of Murphysboro were guests last Sunday of Mr. & Mrs. Virgil MARKS of Marion. Mr. & Mrs. Wesleyan JENNINGS moved Wednesday from Fick apartments to their new home at twenty-first and Elm Streets. Harry ALTHOFF and Ed BOESE of the Home Appliance Store were in St. Louis Wednesday to attend a Nu-Enamel meeting. Mrs. Edward L. BENCINI Jr. underwent a major operation Wednesday morning at St. Andrew's hospital. Dr. H. L. O'CONNELL and his stepmother, Mrs. W. E. O'CONNELL, were in St. Louis Wednesday on business. Frank SERVA, formerly connected with the Hexagon Metal Co., here but now living in Chicago, is here for a few days to complete some unfinished business. A double birthday celebration was held Sunday in Murphysboro. The honorees were Joe BORGERS, Sr., and his great-grandson, Tommy Lee CROSS. It was Tommy's first anniversary and Mr. BORGER's seventy-seventh. Mr. & Mrs. Myron BRIGGS, Mrs. H. D. SWITZER and Chief an Mrs. Urba HANSON and Mr. & Mrs. Robert CROMBAR were in Ava Tuesday night to attend the dinner meeting of the Pharaoh District Board of the Egyptian Council of Boy Scouts. Mr. & Mrs. Ben REIMAN, Route 3, Murphysboro, motored to St. Louis Monday. They were accompanied home by their daughter, Beulah, who will spend her spring vacation from Washington University with her parents. Word as been received by Mr. & Mrs. L. J. SNIDER of Sand Ridge that their daughter, Katherine J. SNIDER, student nurse of Memorial Hospital at Alton, Ill., is now an affiliate in the School of Psychiatric Nursing, State Hospital, Jacksonville, Ill. William HIGGS underwent Monday at St. Andrew's Hospital the fourth operation which has been performed on one of his legs since it was injured Christmas day in a highway accident. HIGGS' wife, who has been in the hospital, has returned home. According to word reaching friends in Murphysboro, Ed SIMS, former owner and operator of SIMS Café here broke his ankle in a recent fall. Mr. & Mrs. SIMS were preparing to return to Murphysboro for a visit at the time of the accident. They live in Tucson, Ariz. Secretary of State announced this week the issuance of a charter to the WIDES Oil Company, Inc., of 208 N. Tenth St., Murphysboro. The announcement listed 500 shares of common pv at $100 and incorporators as Julius WIDES, Fannie WIDES and Louis WIDES, to operate a wholesale and retail gasoline and oil business. William M. WOLFF, 912 Walnut St., served as attorney. Mr. & Mrs. Gene SADLER of Marion, Mr. & Mrs. Lem HARRY of Carbondale have returned to their homes after visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Gene HARRY. Mr. & Mrs. C.T . HUFFORD of 1931 Walnut St., had Miss Jeanette MARGUISS and her finance, their son, Charles T. Jr., as guests over the weekend. Mr. & Mrs. Jack CONNELLY, Mr. & Mrs. Leo CONNELLY and Mrs. Ollie WARD, all of Murphysboro, spent last weekend with friends and relatives in East St. Louis. Herbie, 2 ˝ old son of MTHS Principal Fred SHAPPARD, is suffering an attack of measles. His brother, Danny, a first grade pupil, has returned to school after recovering from the measles. Miss Estelle HUBBARD of Milwaukee, former resident here, visited friends and relatives Wednesday, leaving late in the day for Cairo, where she formerly was employed with a lumber concern.
