Bill JACKSON motored to St. Louis Friday on business. Mrs. Jerry SIMPSON returned to Ava Thursday after visiting in this city. Mrs. Ed THOMPSON and sons went to Oraville Thursday to visit her mother, Mrs. Stella BASTIEN. Mrs. J. C. LINDSEY and daughter, Maxine, and Betty of Campbell Hill shopped here Thursday. Mr. & Mrs. John SHORT and little son John Allen, motored to Chester Friday to visit relatives until Sunday. Among those attending the fashion show in St. Louis Thursday night were Miss Alice EDWARDS and Ralph ALBON. E. L. VOHEL, M & O mechanical engineer of St. Louis, was in Murphysboro Wednesday and Thursday on business. Mrs. Al HUNZIKER and little daughter Una Dorris, went to St. Louis Friday to visit Mr. Hunziker's siter, Mrs. Lulu WELEK. Mrs. J. J. HARPER of this city visited a few hours Thursday with her cousin, Mrs. S. L. MONTIETH of Campbell Hill, who is ill. Mrs. R. W. WALWARK of Ava passed through here Thursday en route home from Marion, where she visited her son, Roger. Harvey CLENDINEN of Cora City was in this city Thursday. B. H. GARDINER of Ava spent a few hours here Thursday. Ed WAYMAN remains ill at his home on Elm Street. Mrs. Fay REESE of Harrisburg is a guest of Mr. & Mrs. Gus COX of Herbert St. Dr. L. B. FIDLER of this city was a business visitor in Grand Tower Friday afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. A. E. BEIMFOHR of Grand Tower, were business visitors here Thursday. Mrs. Fred DOMINIKER of route 3 was a business visitor in this city Thursday. John GILBERT, M. P. Railroad, agent of Cora City and Mr. Young were visitors here Thursday. Miss BERNICE BEGEMAN of East St. Louis is a guest of her uncle, F. A. BEGEMAN, and family, 223 South Legion Way. Henry SICKMEYER of Campbell Hill and Oscar SCHRADER of Shilo Hill were business visitors in Murphysboro Thursday. Mrs. Nora MOSCHENROSE and daughter, Olive, and the latter's cousin, Manuel KENON, of Gorham, shopped here Friday. Miss Mollie CLEAZSER of DuQuoin is visiting this week with Mr. & Mrs. Oscar SCHWEBEL, 1742 Lake street, and other friends in this city. Mr. & Mrs. Z. V. McCORD returned Friday from Marissa, where they visited the latter's sister, Mrs. Robert FORSYTHE. Lois and Don BLACK went to Marissa Friday for two weeks visit. Mrs. Phil ALLEN of Carbondale was here Friday en route to St. Louis to visit relatives a few days. Mrs. J. P. CHAMBERLAIN of this city, went to St. Louis Friday to visit her daughter, Mrs. E. B. BRENTLINGER. Mrs. Mary KIMBALL of Carterville, who has been a guest of her sister, Mrs. Fannie PHILLIPS, 1513 Walnut Street, went to Coulterville Friday for a visit. Mrs. Andrew TEETER and daughter, Jennie, spent Thursday in St. Louis. Miss TEETER resumed her duties at Dr. R. S. SABIN's office Friday after two weeks vacation. Miss Agnes BORGERS went to St. Louis Friday to visit friends. Her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joe BORGERS, and their daughter, Marie, and son, Joe, returned Thursday night from a visit to St. Louis. Mrs. Harry FOX of Williamsburg, Pa., who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. R. L. RASH, 1316 Manning St., left Friday for Edwardsville, Ill., to visit her son, Warren E. BAIRD, before returning home Mr. & Mrs. Frank BLANCHARD and son, James, of Denver, Colo., who have been guests of the former's parents, Mr. & Mrs. J. A. BLANCHARD of this city, left Friday for their home. Ray HAYNES of Christopher, who has also been a guest of Dr. & Mrs. BLANCHARD, returned home Friday. Mrs. W. R. McCONKEY and daughter, Miss Mabel McCONKEY of Chester, who were called here by the illness of their brother and uncle, J. G. ANDREWS, 226 North 11th St., returned home Thursday. Prof. C. L. FORD of Carbondale was in Vienna Saturday on business. Professor Ford, who was principal of the Belknap schools for six years, has accepted the principalship of the Okawville High School the coming school term at a good salary. Mrs. Will COCHRAN and two children from East St. Louis, who has been guests of her mother, Mrs. Nora HENNESSY of this city, returned home Thursday. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Cochran's neice, Alice BLACKWOOD. The children of Prof. & Mrs. M. N. TODD, received a telegram Thursday that they would return Saturday from Mayo's institute where Mrs. Todd underwent a clinical examination. The relatives and friends are glad to learn that no operation was necessary. Mr. & Mrs. Thomas WRIGHT and sons Paul and Thomas Nathan, 1928 Elm St., and her sister, Miss Iva WALKER of Pinckneyville, will leave Saturday morning by motor for Decatur and Springfield, Ill., They will be guests of Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Walker's sister, Mrs. Gus WEBER at Decatur. Mr. & Mrs. Chester BURGESS returned to St. Louis Friday after visiting her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. O. W. JONES, 2111 Clark St., this city. Mr. & Mrs. R. E. EDWARDS and daughters, Misses Alice, Edna, and Ruth EDWARDS, and son, Robert, left Friday on a motor trip and visit with relatives in Chicago. Mrs. Lydia NELSON of this city will leave Sunday for Marion, Ill., to make her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Harry SANDERS. Robert SCHMIDTGALL returned to his home on West Walnut St. Friday from St. Andrew's hospital where he underwent an operation Thursday for the removal of bones in his hose. He is going nicely. Mr. & Mrs. Frank HORNER and daughter, Leona, spent a few hours here Thursday night at the home of Mr. & Mrs. S. R. PLANT, 500 North 16th St. Mr. & Mrs. Alvin LOOS and little daughter, Patricia, of Hortense street, motored to Cairo Friday for a new days' vacation and visit. Mr. Loos is an electrician at the No. 10 mine. Dr. SLOAN of Bloomington, Ill., will come here Sunday to perform the second operation for Mrs. J. L. VERKAMP, for goitre. She underwent the first operation two weeks ago and has been getting along very well. Miss Grace TAGGART who has been attending the summer session of school at Champaign, will return here to the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. & Mrs. J. J. HARPER, 2029 Division Street, Sunday. About the 16th, Miss Taggart and Mr. & Mrs. Harper will leave on two weeks' pleasure trip for Detroit, Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., and other noted places. Rev. & Mrs. L. S. McKOWN and daughter Mary Esther, returned Thursday from three weeks vacation and visit at Vincennes, and Washington, Ind. They were guests of Rev. McKown's parents, Rev. & Mrs. M. C. McKOWN, at Vincennes, and Mrs. McKown's mother, Mrs. Julia A. PEEK, at Washington. They made the trip by motor and report a very pleasant one.
