Dr. Davis has been in the Dry Goods business for twenty five years, but insists that he was not here fifty years ago to remember just how things were, although his father, Cartwright DAVIS was born at old Brownsville and lived in and near Murphysboro from the days of Brownsville until his death eight years ago at the age of eighty-seven. Mr. Davis has been honored by his home town, having been president of the Commercial Association a number of years and Mayor of the city for three terms. His store occupied one of the central locations of the city and has a south entrance on Walnut street and a western entrance on Thirteenth street, and is one of the many prominent stores of the city.
