Murphysboro Daily Republican Era November 11, 1918


    Dr. John BENNETT and Henry BOWER, both of Ava, were shot and wounded Sunday
afternoon by one of three boys hunting some distance from Ava as the doctor and
Mr. BOWER were driving along the read near the mouth of the Austin hollow.

    The men were in an automobile and near the mouth of the hollow they passed
three boys who had guns and were apparently out hunting.  After the auto had
passed a short distance down the road a shot rang out and the charge of shot
peppered both men.

    Dr. BENNETT was only slightly hurt but the shot struck Mr. BOWER about the
neck and shoulders, inflicting wounds that while painful and requiring the
attention of the doctor, are not considered of a serious nature.
