The real Garden Bride, Principal of Harrisburg high school, looked the alleged forger over in Jackson County jail Sunday and said he identified Bride as Edward SIMMONS, who used to work for McBride on his farm near Villa Ridge. Simmons, it is believed, used the names of two of his ex-employers while leaving a flood of bad checks at Carbondale last week. He said his name was Bride and used the name of H. H. LAMER, his other former employer, as the man who signed the checks. Deputy Sheriff Joe MONTGOMERY believes firmly, it is reported that Simmons is one of the boys who several years ago shot a Mrs. CRAWSHAW south of Carbondale when allegedly shooting at a mail box on the highway. Officers begin to believe Merchant Patterson made more than a good catch when he ran "Bride" into the cellar. Additional Comments: Transcribed by Mary Riseling from her grandfather, Dr. C. E.
