The particulars as related to us by J. J. CULLEY, of that place, are about as follows: Three men by the name of Joseph MILLHOUSE, Frank W. WALKER, and Ben MORGAN, were upon a scaffold engaged in weatherboarding the church, at a distance of 25 feet from the ground and the scaffolding gave way. One of the men, Ben MORGAN, got hold of the lathing and saved himself, and remained there until rescued and escaped from hurt. The other two, however, were not so fortunate, and were precipitated to the ground. Joseph MILLHOUSE, one of the two who fell to the ground, was fatally injured, falling upon his side, breaking three of his ribs and crushing his side in. He also received a wound over the right eye, which it was thought, had fractured his skull. There were several smaller wounds upon the head and face. It was thought by those present he would live but a short time, but up to the time of going to press he was still alive. He lives about one mile and a half from DeSoto, and was the owner of a fine farm, a master mechanic, well know, and highly respected by all his acquaintances. The other man, Frank WALKER, had his ankle broken but escaped unhurt otherwise. Additional Comments: The October 16, 1923 edition of the paper was a Golden Anniversary edition, which included published articles on the history of Murphysboro as well as articles on current events of the day.
