Maybe that is why they used to call the beverage "soda pop"-we don't know. Anyway they're drinking it yet and they like it. Well, in 1892 "Col," Joe STEINLE and William KULL bought out the company and operated it until 1898. And all the time the "pop" seemed to get better. In 1898 Col. STEINLE, Rube HAYES, Albert WILL and William KULL thought so much of the growing business that they incorporated as the Murphysboro Bottling Company. In 1920, the corporation dissolved and William KULL because the sole owner, operated the business profitable until 1927 and sold it to the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of DuQuoin, which firm continues its operation. Dairy products and beverages have been added to its output since Mid-west Dairy Corporation interests took hold. Mr. Carl LEHMAN is the energetic plant superintendent here and during his direction the plant has been greatly improved and enlarged. It is not hard for older people in Murphysboro to recall the time when dads would pause on North 13th street to let the kiddies see the "red soda pop" coming out of the hand loaders. It was not at all unusual, either, for the pioneers to see that the boys and girls got a bottle for themselves while they looked on, mouths watering.
