CHAPMAN PUBLIC NOTICES The following information is desired by the Relief Committee: First-names of killed and injured, their ages, number of dependents, if any; there present addresses and financial condition. Names of owners of property damaged or destroyed, kind of property, location, extent of loss, amount of insurance, if any, and financial condition. You are expected to call at General Headquarters at Elk's Club and report this information in person to the Department of Statistical Information, Charles F. CHAPMAN, Chairman. Second-Names and present addresses of all persons in need of homes and shelter; names and addresses of all persons that have homes and shelter that they are willing to offer to the homeless during the present emergency. You are expected to call at said headquarters and report this information to the Department of Housing and Feeding, Henry J. BUSCH, Chairman. Third-Names, ages and present addresses of all children in distress and in need. Report this information to Mesdames Anna BAER an Al G. MYERS at General Headquarters. This information is not for our benefit, but is sought for the purpose of helping and aiding you in every way we can out of your present difficulties. We want to do everything we can for you, and must have this information in order to secure financial aid to assist you. It does not matter if the distressed are relatives of yours of not. If you have any of the above information, call in person, and give, and do not depend on others doing it. Additional Comments: The above are stories published in an Extra Edition of the Murphysboro Daily Independent published at 5:20 p.m. on March 22, 1925. Widely considered the most devastating and powerful tornado in American history, the Great Tri-State Tornado ripped through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana on March 18, 1925. In its 219-mile-long wake it left four completely destroyed towns, six severely damaged ones, 15,000 destroyed homes, and 2,000 injured. Most significantly, 695 people were killed, a record for a single tornado.
