GRAMMER DIES OF INFLUENZA Mrs. Susie GRAMMER died of influenza pneumonia sometime Saturday night at her home about 2 miles from Pomona and the same disease claimed her niece or nephew the day before. Two weeks ago Thursday evening Mrs. GRAMMER's son William McKinley GRAMMER, died at her home after being ill several days of influenza pneumonia. He had insisted on going out to the barn for the purpose of seeing about the horses and on returning to the house sat down on a chair and died there about 20 minutes later. A sensational news story at the time said the "whole family" fled from the house, leaving the body there alone. As a mater of fact the mother was the only one in the house when her son died. She went to a neighbor's and reported the death. She has another son living in Pomona township, 1 son in the army and a married daughter living in Granite City. There has been considerable influenza in the GRAMMER neighborhood the past few weeks and it is feared by the citizens who remain away from houses where there are cases of the disease. It is reported Mrs. GRAMMER alone took care of her son during his illness. She took down with influenza several days ago. Pneumonia followed and she died Saturday night. Relatives came to Murphysboro Sunday and made arrangements for the funeral, which they stated would take place Monday. The body would be buried at Dutch Ridge cemetery they said. Arrangements for the burial of the relative who died Friday were made at Alto Pass. Mrs. GRAMMER was a widow, her husband having taken his own life several years ago. They were related to the several GRAMMERs residing in Murphysboro.
