Hiles, wife of Jacob Hiles, of near Hunt City, died February 1, 1897, after a brief illness of lung fever. Deceased was born in Fentress Co. Tenn, March 16, 1852; moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elias McFadden, seven years later to Kentucky; thence to Jasper Co., ILL in 1863; and was married to her late consort December 28, 1867. To this union were born 14 children, eight sons and six daughters. Two sons and one daughter preceded her to the better land. A household is bereft of a mother's guardian care and tender attention; the husband has lost his truest and best friend on earth; her three sisters will mourn her loss as only good sisters do; the church, of which she had been a faithful and consistent christian, as it may truly be said a good woman is gone, has laid down, at the end of a well spent life full of noble deeds; and now to the children: Your mother is gone, never more to return. Try to imitate her life as she would have you do, if living. Make mother's God your God that you may share with her the joys of heaven and all that heaven means. There fragrant flowers immortal bloom, And joys supreme are given; There rays divine dispose the gloom; Beyond the dark and narrow tomb Appears the dawn of heaven. P. R.
