Walnut Hill, was born in Marion County, Ill., February 22, 1835, to John and Sarah (COPPLE) SANDERS. He was born in North Carolina; she in Indiana. His parents moved to Indiana when he was about eighteen months of age, and it was there he was reared and educated, and died about July 6, 1875. She is still living. To them nine children were born, five of whom still survive, viz.: Thomas, Elizabeth, John, Charles and Isaac. In 1857, our subject came to this county and settled on his present farm, which contains 280 acres of land. He was married in Indiana, in 1854, to Miss Elizabeth COOK, who was born in Orange County, Ind., daughter of Absalom COOK. Their union has been blessed with nine children living, viz.: Thomas, William R., John A., Absalom, Cena, Samuel, Charles, Ira and Edward; also three dead. Mr. Sanders has been one of the successful farmers of this township, but his success in life has been made through his own energy. From April 7, 1865, till July 29, 1865, he was in the army, and served in Company H, Fifty-third Illinois Infantry. He is a member of Walnut Hill Lodge, I. O. O. F., No. 710. In politics, he is Greenbacker. For over thirty-one years he and wife have been active members of the Christian Church.
