Breeze, three and one half miles south of Craig, on February 19, 1897, of la grippe, Robert Breeze in the 76th year of his age. Deceased was born in Orange county, Indiana, October 19, 1821. With his parents he went to Jefferson county, Illinois, October 11, 1827, where most of his active life was spent, having moved to Routt county in 1882. January 3, 1843, he was married to Martha J. Downes, unto them were born ten children, four of whom died in infancy and a fifth, Mrs. W.W. Wayman, died near Craig in 1885. L.L. and L.H. Breeze, Mrs. J.L. Tower and Mrs. J.T. Jackson, all of this community, and Judge John M. Breeze of Salt Lake, Utah, are the surviving children. To Robert Breeze life and christianity were synonymous terms. He united with the Christian Church in his youth, before he was married, and was therefore an earnest active Christian for nearly sixty years, a leader in the work in the congregation at his old home in Illinois, and since the church was organized at this place, although hindered by feeble health from attending as often as he would liked to have done, he made both pastor and people to feel his earnestness. No forward movement was ever undertaken by the church but he was a most zealous supporter. The close of his life was fitting and beautiful. Calmly and uncomplainingly for several years he awaited the end, but never deemed his service complete until the summons came to come up nearer the throne. On Sunday he was confined to his bed and on Friday of the same week, just about the close of day, as a little child sweetly and peacefully sinks to rest on its mothers bosom, he fell asleep in the arms of Jesus. "Servant of God, well done! Rest from thy loved employ; The battle fought, the victory won, Enter thy master's joy. "The pains of death are past; Labor and sorrow cease, And life's long warfare closed at last, His soul is found in peace."
