Vernon Newspaper Jan 19, 1928: Father Dies But Few Days After His Son Rolla Farthing Died This Morning- Little Son Died Saturday, January 14 Burying his little 7 months old son Sunday, January 15, Rolla Farthing, 2216 Cherry Street, followed him in death this morning, less than a week later. The child died Saturday, January 14. The father's death occurred this morning at 5:30 o'clock and was due to pneumonia complicated with other ailments. The father was 38 years old. He is survived by his widow and three children, Lucille, 12; Rolla Delmar, 10 and Adella, 6 years of age. Mr. Farthing's father, Curtis Farthing, near Waltonville, and the following brothers and sisters survive: Adam Farthing, Mt. Vernon; Charles and Joe, Arkansas; Paul, Waltonville; and Mrs. Florence Shehorn, Mt. Vernon. Mr. Farthing was an electrician, but at the time of his death was employed by W. N. Atkinson, contractor. Mr. Farthing was a good citizen and held in the highest respect by all who knew him. His death was rather sudden and unexpected as he had been sick but a few days. (This was my grandfather's obituary which my mother has kept all these years. My mother now lives with me in CA and I just recently found the IL website through an old classmate of mine from Mt. Vernon High. I find it very interesting but have not found many of my relatives yet. I will check more of mother's files to see if I can add more later.
