Mrs. Sarah Bushey marks 100th birthday. An area woman who lived in a log cabin in Grafton from 1900 until 1927 is celebrating her 100th birthday today with friends at a party at Eldercare nursing home. Mrs. Sarah Ellen (Wall) Bushey was born on Nov. 1, 1877, in New Douglas, Illinois and is not the first in her family to reach the 100-year milstone. Mrs. Bushey recalls that her grandfather walked over a mile to a saw mill on his 106th birthday. Her late husband, John William Bushey lived to the age of 97. She is the last of three brothers and three sisters, two of whom also have their birthdate of Nov. 1. She is believed to many to be the oldest Grafton citizen. From 1930 she made quilts during the winter months and gardened to sell fruit and vegetables as support during the summer. At the age of 95, she became resident of Eldercare because of a fall which she broke her hip. Her children include a son, Emil of Kentucky; and daughters, Mrs. Alice Keith Feguson, of Mo.; Mrs. Irene Russell of Decatur, Ga.; Mrs. Mina Wilson, of Kirkwood, Mo.; Mrs. Garnet Callahan of Grafton; and Mrs. June Peterson of California. Her eldest daughter, Florence Hagerhorst, killed in an accident in January, was 80 years old. NOTE: b.
