Obituary of Mrs Ray Groppel, Jersey County, Illinois Contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives Copyright 1999 Dolores Andrews Jerseyville,Dec.10, 1964 Mrs. Ray Groppel, 50, Killed Monday Night Mrs. Jewell Susan Groppel of Route One, Godfrey, was fatally injured Monday night about 10:15 o'clock when she was struck by a car as she was crossing Highway 67A near her home. The driver of the car was Lorin Roberts of Jerseyville, Mrs. Groppel was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Joseph Hospital in Alton where she was moved following the accident. The accident victim and her sixteen year old daughter, Judy were returning to their home after being at the home of a neighbor. The daughter was uninjured. The accident was investigated by State Trooper James File of Alton. No charges was filed against Roberts who was traveling North on the highway. Funeral Here The body of Mrs. Groppel was brought to Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville where funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at two 0'clock. Rev. Mode Powell will officiate and burial will be in the Fieldon Cemetery. Mrs. Groppel; wife of Raymond Groppel was a former resident Jersey County and was born here September 19, 1914. The family had resided in the Godfrey residence for the past four years. Mrs. Groppel was a daughter of the late Henry L. and Sarah Ward McAdams. Her survivors in addition to her husband are two sons, Harold T. Groppel of Jerseyville and Stanley L. Groppel of Godfrey; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Agnes) Cates of Alton and Miss Judy Sue Groppel of Godfrey; four grandchildren; one brother, Henry Clay McAdams of Otterville; three sisters, Mrs. Almon Sconce of Grafton, Mrs. Almeda Engel of Greenfield and Mrs. Maude Dorris of Alton.
