Biography of John Leitzen SR Source History of Jo Daviess County -- 1904 LEITZEN, JOHN Sr., farmer and stockraiser, Wards Grove Township. Jo Daviess County, Ill., was born in Germany, Jan. 27, 1846, the son of John and Catherine (Schuer) Leitzen. Mr. Leitzen came to the United States in 1868, residing first in the State of New York for nine months, and then removed to Jo Daviess County, Ill., where, for several years, he was engaged in farming in Nora Township, but in 1882 purchased his present farm in Sections 4 and 7, Wards Grove Township. His mother having died in the Fatherland, Mr. Leitzen's father came to America and spent the remainder of his days with his son. On March 6, 1869, Mr. Leitzen was married to Anna Mary Trappen, who is also a native of Germany, and of this union there are two children, Katie and John, Jr. Mr. Leitzen is a Democrat in politics, and has served as School Director and Road Commissioner. He and his wife are members of the Catholic Church.
