Biography of Phillip Brickner Source History of Jo Daviess County -- 1904 BRICKNER, PHILIP farmer, Thompson Township, Jo Daviess County, was born in Germany, Dec. 7, 1842, a son of Jacob and Rachel Brickner, both of whom were born in the Fatherland. While in his native country the subject of this sketch served in the Prussian army, and was twice wounded. After completing his term of military service he came to the United States and settled in Jo Daviess County, Ill., where, nine years later, he purchased a farm of 200 acres in Thompson Township. Here he has served several terms as School Director, and is a member of the Lutheran Church. His wife, who was Elsie Smith before her marriage, was born in Switzerland. Seven children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Brickner, viz.: August, Philip, Ernest D., Henry C., Anna.
