Robbery and Attempt to Murder!

A daring highway robbery and probable murder, took place in Galena, a short 
distance from our office on Friday night last. A man named Thomas O’Bryne, was 
knocked down, his head terribly wounded, and his pockets rifled of some $70 of 
money, more or less. His skull is broken in several places, and now lies in a 
condition which renders his recovery barely possible, in the judgment of the 
physician.

This being the first instance of an assault of this kind having been committed 
in this part of the country, to public knowledge, where the possession of 
money was the apparent object, it has created a great sensation. – Galena
