He was the last of a family of sixteen children. He was married to Lucinda Robinson July 10, 1845; three children were born to them-Mary, John and Eliza. His family was taken from him by the cholera epidemic that swept the state of Ohio in 1850. On January 24, 1852 he was married to Harriet Elizabeth Drane and removed to Stockton township, Illinois, on June 7, 1855 and removed from there to Hanover township in 1868. He was the father of 9 children by this union, five of whom survive, Mrs. Welcome Straitt, Habover twp., Mrs. Keeler Harris, Dubuque, John DeGear, Bellevue, Louisa and George at home. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and ten grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted at the family home on Monday at 11:00, Rev. A. D. Klontz officiting. Interment in the Lost Mound cemetery. Six grandsons acted as pall bearers.
