He died of diseases incident to age. He was married to Barbara Tennes in 1854 in Luxemburg, the year he emigrated to America, locating the same year in this vicinity, residing ever since on the farm until his retirement when he moved to town. Following the death of his wife he made his home with his son, Valentine, who lives south of town. He is survived by two sons and five daughters: Nicholas and Valentine and Mrs. Alfred Lampe, Mrs. B. J. Manderscheid of Bellevue, Mrs. Peter Streff of St. Donatus, Mrs. J. H. Kieffer, East Dubuque, and Mrs. Frank Mootz of LaMotte, and 40 grandchildren and 4 greatgrandchildren. He was a devoted Catholic all his life and died in the faith. The funeral was conducted from St. Joseph's church, Rev. Father Bies officiating. Six of the grandchildren were pall bearers-Leroy Lampe, Joseph Streff, Joseph Kieffer, Harry Kieffer, John Kieffer and Joseph Kieffer. Interment was in the church cemetery.
