Transcribed by Cindy Pegg James Weeks was born in 1827 in Pope County. His parents died seven year s later and he lived with an older brother. He married Harriet M. Walker of Tennessee. James and Harriet moved around alot before settling in Joh nson County. They started out in Pope County, IL then moved to Kentucky for three years and on to Missouri. While living in Missouri, the farm that they had purchased near the river bottoms was flooded destroying all of their buildings and the land. After being reduced to poverty they m oved to Tennessee where James again took up farming. James managed to ov ercome his losses and again moved his family to Massac County in Illinois 2E The family remained in Massac County for three years then moved on t o Johnson County where James became minister of the Baptist Church of Bel knap. James and Harriet had nine children: Mahala, wife of James Ramer; Albert, James, Malcom and Newton all deceased; William Franklin; Elizabet h, wife of John Vernon of Tennessee; Minnie, wife of William Stears of Bl oomfield, MO. and James R. who died in Missouri. William Franklin marrie d Effie L. Redden of Pope County and had three children; Everet Guy (dece ased), William V. and a child that died in infancy.
