Kerley was born in Burke County, NC, August 20, 1850 to Aaron and Rebecca (Alexander) Kerley, Aaron being the son of Henry and Sarah Kerley of North Carolina. Quillon came to Illinois November 28, 1852 and married Elizabeth R. Simmons on December 13, 1853. Elizabeth was a native of Johnson County, born May 22, 1830 to William and Sarah (Allard) Simmons. William Simmons was born in Alabama, his wife was born in South Carolina. Elizabeth died April 10, 1878 and Quillon married second to Fannie R. Shirk on January 24, 1881. Fannie was born in Pope County, IL November 4, 1842.
