Smith, veteran editor of the Kankakee Daily Democrat and a leader in democratic politics of Kankakee, was instantly killed by lightning yesterday while playing golf at the Kankakee Country club. He was 67 years old. A number of his friends reside in Joliet. Judge Arthur W. DeSelm of Kankakee and judge of the judicial circuit, was with Mr. Smith. He was uninjured. Both were playing golf when a storm arose. They had started to the club house when the bolt struck Mr. Smith.
