Holmes, 77, of 370 S. Prairie St., died Wednesday at 6:55 p.m. in St. Mary's Hospital, where she had been a patient since Sept. 1, after having suffered a stroke. She was born Dec. 2, 1877, at Kewanee and was married there Feb. 12, 1896, to Leroy Holmes, who died in 1943. The family moved to Abingdon, where they resided several years. She had been a resident of Galesburg for the past 20 years. Before retiring in 1940, she was employed by the Globe Superior Co. in Abingdon. Surviving are a son, Lowell of Galesburg; three daughters, Mrs. W. G. (Bernice) Morgan and Mrs. Joseph W. (Florence) Spellman, both of Galesburg, and Mrs. George (Murill) Carr of Hermosa Beach. Calif., eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Foley Mortuary, where friends may call Friday. Dr. Jual Ford of First Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
