He died on the 17th of April. At the time he received his injuries he and his partner were running coal off a pillar in southeast entry, and had taken but one fall of it, about two feet deep, and the width of the pillar, 15 feet. Over this coal there is a draw slate between four and six inches thick, which either falls after the coal or is taken down, and in some instances is propped up. In this case, Lundeen and his partner were waiting to have all their loose coal loaded out before removing or securing the draw slate, and an hour previous to Lundeen receiving his injuries, the foreman, Mr. Roddell, was in the place and called their attention to the draw slate, which afterwards fell. The piece that fell measured 2 1-2x6 feet in area and 4 inches thick. It broke in two over his body, inflicting spinal injuries which resulted in death. He left a widow and three children.
