J. Davis, after a tedious illness, succumbed to the inevitable Monday morning at his home in Libertyville. His affliction, a complication of bright’s disease and pleurisy culminated Saturday in a severe hemorrhage to which case was due his death, a day or two later. “Joe” Davis, as he was familiarly known, had been a resident of this locality for many years. He was of a cheerful disposition, honest in his dealings, frugal and unostentatious. By his industry and frugality he accumulated a considerable fortune. He had not become rich as have so many Lake County pioneers because their real estate holdings, acquired at an early day, appreciate in value as the country develops. Mr. Davis was an extensive money loaner and it was largely in this way he became wealthy. Deceased was born in Pembrokeshire, South Wales June 10, 1833. In 1853 he came to this country and settled in Pennsylvania and four years later was married to Miss Jane Seivelle, soon after coming to Lake County and has lived since in the vicinity of Libertyville. Three children preceded him to the grave. A wife and three children survive him. Mrs. Lelah McAtee, Mrs. Edith Warren and Ernest Davis. He had for twenty-seven years been a member of the Methodist Church at Gages Lake. Rev Dix officiated at the funeral, which was held in the Libertyville M. E. church Wednesday morning interment being in Lakeside cemetery. Additional Comments: Copyright ©2013 by Kathy Stinson. This copy contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives.
