OLSEN, NAVY VETERAN AND FATHER OF FIVE OFFICER, DIES Lieut. Hjalmer Olsen, United Sates navy, retired, father of five naval officers and father-in-law of a sixth, died yesterday in the naval hospital at the Great Lakes Navel Training station. He had been ill three weeks. He was 82 years old, and lived at 238 Ridgeland avenue, Waukegan. From boyhood, the sea was Lieut. Olsen's life. He was born in Oslo, Norway, June 11, 18960, entered the merchant marine at 14, and enlisted in the United States Navy at 20. He served in the Spanish-American war, retired in 1904, but returned to active duty in 1906-'087 when the Great Lakes station was established and settled in Waukegan. He retired again, then was recalled into active service 1917-'18. After his third retirement, he entered the insurance business. Lieut. Olsen's officer sons, all Annapolis graduates, and all now on active duty are Commander Charles E., Commander Clarence E., Lieut. Comm. Earl K., Lieut. Robert, and Lieut. Albert R. The son-in-law, also on active duty, is Lieut. Comm. Henry G. Munson, husband of Lieut. Olsen's only daughter, Anna. All survive with his widow, Anna. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal church, Waukegan.
